Post-holiday, Pre-uni blues

Now that my lovely, beautiful, sunny holiday in Mauritius is over and my friends have all gone home after our New Year's celebrations in London, it is back to the grind of work work work, dissertation, dissertation, dissertation. And I've got to say it's thoroughly depressing. The only thing keeping me going is the thought that in just over 5 months time (on the 20th of May, to be more specific), all of this will be over. My work will be done and dusted, and all handed in, leaving me free to enjoy a few weeks of a Cornish Summer, before I (fingers crossed) head out to America to begin my Summer Camp adventure!

And after that...it's a round the world trip with my best mates. So enjoy me while you can, England, I'm gonna be gone for quite some time!

Hello, Sunshine

For Christmas I went to Mauritius with my (very extended) family...that is, my dad, my elder sister, my two younger half-sisters, my ex-stepmum, her new boyfriend, and their two-year-old (whom I consider my sister). See, I told you it was complicated.

The view from my sun lounger
Because of all the snow in London, we nearly didn't even make it there, which would have been an absolute disaster, but has luck would have it, it stopped snowing for just long enough so we could make it out of the country...we were the first flight out to Mauritius for five days! Phew...Christmas would have been lame if we hadn't been able to go - we'd already done Christmas dinner and presents and everything, so that we wouldn't have to carry extra stuff on the plane.

Anyway, after a long 12 hour flight, we arrived in hot and sunny Mauritius and quickly sorted ourselves out in our rooms at the Sugar Beach Hotel on the west coast of the island and were soon lying on the beach, soaking up some rays. It was beautiful, with white sands and blue sea, a book in my hand, and music in my ears. What more could a girl ask for?

Family Lunch
Over the week, we did nothing and everything. Everyday we'd eat ourselves silly at the buffet breakfast then play in the pool and lie on the beach before having an incredible lunch of sushi, noodles, salads, burgers, grilled sandwiches, fish...we ate it all! After all that food we thought it would be best to do some exercise, so we'd all go off to the watersports hut and go sailing or kayaking or on a pedalo. And about halfway through the week I got a quick wind-surfing lesson and went out on the sea for a few hours, using every muscle in my body to pull up that hefty sail. It was so much fun, I didnt want to stop, but when a big fish decided to sink it's teeth into my foot I thought it was time to call it a day!

Sunset over the South Pool
In the evenings we'd go for dinner in one of the hotel's three restaurants - at the main buffet they had a different theme every night, so one night it was oriental food, one was Lebanese, and of course there was Christmas dinner on the day itself. After stuffing ourselves to excellent sufficiency, we'd head over to Tides bar for some cocktails and dancing. Well, I say dancing...but I really mean that Thalia (the 2-year-old) had the time of her life dancing to the live band, while the rest of us watch on, thinking how cute she was! On some nights there were also live dance shows, ranging from belly-dancing to a traditional Mauritian dance display on our last night, a fantastic way to end our stay.

So, if anyone fancies a Christmas getaway, I would definitely recommend Mauritius. It's got everything you could want and more. But most importantly, it's not cold, grey and wet, like England!

Paris Paris Paris

So, nearly 2 months since returning from Paris, I have finally had the time to put together the footage i took, and make a lovely little video to show you all just what we got up to while we were there. I hope you enjoy!

I'm Baaaaack!

I'm well aware I've been pretty absent recently, apologies for that...life's been pretty hectic. Oh, and my laptop broke and I've only just gotten it back...a month later!

So what's been happening, I hear you cry?!

Well...where did I leave off? I was back in London after numerous holidays and fun travels and before long the monotony of being in one place was really starting to get to me. So fortunately I managed to get week's work placement at Tiger Aspect (a TV & Film production company) in the editing department, which was amazing as I got to really experience how it all works in post production and I actually got to sit in my own edit suite and play around with a cut of the BBC programme 'The Deep', as well as working with a director to put together a rough cut of a pitch video for a new show.

Tiger Aspect Avid Edit Suite
It was so much fun working there, and I really hope to go back in my Christmas holidays...it really has just confirmed that editing is definitely what I want to do after Uni, and now I'm so excited to get stuck into my final projects and just work on my craft.

I would have love to do another week at Tiger, but I'd already made plans to go with a friend to Paris the following week to see Canadian band, Stars.  Time for another adventure...but more on this another time - out escapades deserve their own post I think!

For now, I'm back in Falmouth...term has started and I'm finding that 3rd year is freakin' terrifying! On the plus side though, it'll all be over soon and then I can disappear off round the world!

Oh, and I got a car. A Seat Arosa. He's a beauty. Bucket List Number 49 - complete!

My lovely car...any name suggestions?
That's all for now. Byeeeee

Home At Last

Mykali Bay. You can see Turkey off in the distance.
I'm back in London after my (almost) month of travels and I have to say it's been a pretty sweet summer so far. I went down to the south of France for a few days before catching a plane (or three) to Samos Island, Greece. Samos is pretty much the furthest you can get from mainland Greece before you're in Turkey...I mean, I probably could have swum across it's really that close (have a look at the photo and you'll see what I mean).

Our room at the Sandalis Hotel

If you're ever in Samos and you want somewhere fairly cheap to stay, go to the George Sandalis Hotel in Pythagorio. It's only 30 Euros per night for a double room with en suite bathroom, balcony and little kitchen area (with fridge). It's clean and tidy, and the old couple who run it, Angelo and Maria, are awesome!

For the first few days we went to a little beach to the right of the harbour (where the sun loungers cost 3 euros each), which was nice, if not a little busy. After that, we found Pythagorio Beach, just a 5-10 minute walk back along the main road out of Pyth. It's a much longer stretch of beach, the sun loungers are only 2 euros 50 cents, and the sea is nicer to swim in.

Pythagorio Beach
We also visited a friend of mine who is working as a sailing instructor (among other things) in Mykali Bay, a beautiful beach area, where the sea is a perfect blue and has a sandbank that stretches for what seems like miles (see photo above). There are also kayaks, jet skis and other water activities available to try.

At night time, Pythagorio really comes alive and the many many many bars and restaurants that line the harbour front are always buzzing...I would recommend Zephyrus for their crepes and delicious milkshakes (and free wifi...just ask for the code when you buy a drink), and Thomas Bar for the most comfortable chairs in the world. No joke. They're incredible.

Zephyrus Bar (it was usually busier than this!)
Samos is a great place to just chill out and get some sun. However, if you're the type of person who needs activity then there are loads of daily boat trips to other beaches around the island and plenty of car/moped/quad-bike hire places if you fancy doing a little exploring.

Sadly though, all holidays come to an end...there's always next year!

And So It Begins

Finally my summer travels have begun, and although not quite as exciting or adventurous as it would have been had I won the STA WTI, I am just ecstatic to be going anywhere, to be moving, to be on the road.

I'm currently in Tuscany, Italy, staying in the most beautiful villa about an hour south of Florence, with my Dad and two younger sisters. It. Is. Heaven. The weather is glorious, the food delicious, and the pool is the exact right temperature - not too cold, not too warm, just perfect. Oh it's a hard life.

We've really just been doing nothing since we arrived. Just lying by the pool, reading, listening to music...mostly waiting for the next meal! And I wouldn't have it any other way. Although I think tomorrow we're going to Siena for a bit of a change of scenery.

I'm here until Friday and then it's a nice long train journey to Nice, France (I think I have to make about 3 or 4 changes...that could be interesting as I really don't speak a word of Italian. Or French for that matter. All part of the adventure I suppose!) and then on to my Grandma's house in a little village called Coursegoules, up in the mountains. It's so beautiful there, and I've been going every year since I was three, so it's kind of like a home-from-home.

And so, the journey continues...

These Are The Best Days Of My Life

My time in Falmouth this year is drawing to an end; I'm off back home to London in a few days, and to be honest I'm actually pretty excited. This usually buzzing beach-side town is getting more quiet and emptier by the day, there's only two of us left in my house now and I have to say I really don't like the soundless space. I can't wait to get back to a city and spend time with my family for a few weeks. Then I'm off to Europe for a month!

But before I get ahead of myself, I'll just back up a bit to the BEST weekend of my year so far...GLASTONBURY! I was a glasto virgin and it by far exceeded my (very high) expectations. The weather was beautiful, the bands were amazing, but most of all, it was the atmosphere and general happy vibe that I loved the most. Everyone was just so...chilled.

There's so much I want to say about it, I could go on forever. So instead here's my Top 5 best bits:
  1. Spending 6 hours in the John Peel Tent and succeeding in getting right to the front for Mumford & Sons
  2. Seeing Frank Turner do a secret gig to about 100 or so people at Strummerville Campfire - basically a little shed next to a campfire...amazing
  3. Stevie Wonder...'nuff said.
  4. Sitting in the fields of the Pyramid Stage, with Jack Johnson playing as the sun went down on the last evening.
  5. The people. One example being when they wouldn't let any more people into the 'football fields' to watch the England v Germany game, we found two girls listening to the match on a radio and soon there were about twenty total strangers crowded round this crappy stereo all cheering and shouting. It didn't really matter that we lost...we were at glasto!
So that was Glastonbury 2010. Am I going again next year? You can bet your life on it!
Bucket List Number 36 - complete!

Now my sights are set on the next few summer months, and a good few months they are going to be, I can guarantee that. I'm off to Italy then France on family holidays, then from France I'm heading to the Greek island of Samos to visit a friend before spending some time in Athens and exploring a bit of what Europe has to offer. Fun times before the hard work and stress of my 3rd and final year at uni begins. I can't wait.

Until next time. Over and out.

Get Rid Of Me

Sorry I haven't posted anything for a while...been super busy having fun in the sun and all that. Shot a TV Show about Ghost hunting, and I'm also currently in the process of making a music video for singer/songwriter Marco Spiezia (he's awesome, go check him out!). So yeah, it's all been go go go here.

Speaking of, I'm entering ANOTHER travel competition run by On The Go Tours aptly named Get Rid Of Me - it's basically a contest to see who is most annoying and should be sent away around the world for 6 months (I know, amazing prize or what?!). Basically you 'confess' your sins in either written format or in a video and convince people to vote for you in any way possible, and while this competition is totally down to luck, as the winner is chosen at random from all the votes (i.e. the more votes you have , the bigger your chances of winning are), it has totally pulled me out of my post STA WTI blues and given me something to focus on again. So if you fancy it, give me a vote to GET RID OF ME!

This time though, I'm not pinning all my hopes and dreams on it - I making my own travel plans for this summer too...off to Italy, France and Greece for about a month...hopefully this will stave off my travel bug for a while, or at least until I graduate next summer and can disappear off into the wilderness.

Live Life, Love Life

I desperately want to be anywhere. Anywhere but here. Somewhere new and exciting, where I can meet interesting people and experience amazing things.

I love Falmouth, especially now, in the sunshine, with all my work handed in, and nothing to do but enjoy myself. But ever since the end of the STA competition (and all the more now that the intern's proper itinerary has been announced), my hunger for travel and adventure has completely taken over. I want to get away...I need to get away, before I go completely insane!

I've got a few ideas for the summer months, but a lot of them seem to involve waiting on other people to make their decisions and their plans before I can finalise mine...it's driving me mad. No one will commit to anything...so I think in the end, I'm just gonna have to go it alone. To explore and just see where I end up. That's my kind of travelling...spontaneous and unforeseeable.

Anyway...for now, I'll leave you with this...

Take a look out at the ocean. You'll soon realise that the possibilities are endless.

Oh What A Busy Life I Lead

Sorry I haven't blogged for a while, I have been supremely busy with uni work for the past week or so (I've even been in the library all afternoon today...yes, on a Saturday!) and just haven't had a spare minute to sit down and think, let alone write.

But it will all be over soon...only two weeks to go and then 2nd year is over. Oh god, that means I'm gonna be a 3rd year...uh-oh. It's gonna get serious.

I guess all I wanted to say was this...the STA World Traveller Intern competition is coming to an end, only 4 days to go until they announce the winners, and I for one cannot wait! The suspense is killing me and it's been so hard to think of anything else. Obviously I want to win, as do all the other 9 finalists (congrats to everyone, we've all done amazingly to get this far!), but if I don't there's a lot that I can take away from this competition.

I feel that I've learnt a lot about myself, and like Emma Sparks, I no longer have the attitude of 'why bother, I'm never going to win' but instead I now think 'well, somebody has to...I might as well give it a go'. My whole outlook on situations like this has changed.

You'll never know if you don't give it a go.

That I think is my new motto. And it rhymes, even better!

I've decided that even if I don't win, I am going to do something amazing this summer - maybe I'll go inter railing around Europe like I had originally planned over 3 months ago, before the whole STA thing kicked off. Or island hopping in Greece. Or head over to see family in America. Or maybe somewhere more exotic, like Thailand? Who knows...

 The possibilities are endless.

Final Video

It's been a really intense week - ever since finding out about the STA top 10, I have been non-stop on the go, go, go! No uni work has been done, only manic STA planning, filming and editing. I wanted to do this thing to the absolute best of my ability, to have no regrets, to be able to say, win or lose, that I couldn't possibly have done anything different, or anything more.

And now that my video is finally finished and uploaded, I feel that I can safely say I have succeeded in my aims. Even if I do say so myself, I'm really proud of what I've created in the short space of time we were given (even though the deadline has now been extended to Friday, but whatever!) and I think my video fully represents what Falmouth is all about.

I planned it all out on Thursday, started filming on Friday evening, spent the day interviewing locals on Saturday, filmed the beach bits on Sunday and finally finished it off on Monday night. Then editing began (one of the best bits, in my opinion...it's like a puzzle - you just have to keep playing with it until you get what you want) and after two days it is now complete. All I can do is wait. Fingers crossed for the 12th of May! And if you haven't already, please please please take a few seconds to vote by visiting www.voterusja.com!

Belgium Video

As promised, here's a little something from my Easter weekend getaway to Belgium. Enjoy!

Belgium: Day Three

With it being our last day, we thought we'd head out into Antwerp for a little explore and some light shopping, but when we got to the main shopping street (the Meir) we discovered that, because it's Easter Monday and therefore a bank holiday, none of the shops were open! Our plans scuppered, we just wandered around a bit, gazing longing in all the shop windows until we decided that we should probably do something cultural, so we headed to Reubenshuis, (the house where the painter, Rubens, used to live) which has been done up and re-furnished to look just as it might have done when Rubens lived there and is full of all his artwork. However we all thought the most interesting thing was the embossed and gilded leather wallpaper.

After this cultural excursion we went off in search of a nice cafe for lunch, and ended up in a cute little place called 'jam', which served delicious pasta and toasted sandwiches. Once full to bursting point (food seems to be a theme of this weekend, doesn't it?!), we went back to the hotel to collect our bags and we were soon on our way back to Brussels station and quickly on the Eurostar heading for London.

It's a been a fantastic three days, full of fun and culture and discovery, but most of all full of chocolate. When asked what has been the best bit of the holiday, my sisters all replied: "THE FOOD!" What a surprise. So there you go, if you like food, Belgium's your place. It's pretty good for culture too.

Belgium: Day Two

Today was a proper 'exploring' day. We set off for Bruges at about half eleven this morning, arriving roughly an hour later to streets lined with chocolate shops, all absolutely packed with tourists. We excitedly rushed up and down the streets, looking at the different chocolates on display (even buying a few [boxes] to take home with us!), and being enticed by all the vibrant colours and delicious smells.

When sufficiently sick of all this chocolatey goodness, we ventured further into the centre of the city, towards the canal and the Markt, passing yet more chocolate shops on the way. The Markt is the focal point of Bruges and is where most of the city's restaurants and cafe's are situated...so after looking around for a bit, we picked one and went in for some well deserved food. Forty-five minutes later, and with full tummies, we made our way over to the Belfort Tower (a landmark some of you may recognise from the film In Bruges) to climb all 366 steps right to the top, but when we arrived there was a massive queue to even climb just one step, so instead we headed to the Burg, a square that is walled by beautiful old buildings, churches and museums.
After all that sightseeing, there was just enough time before heading back to the hotel in Antwerp for one last treat...a very large ice cream!

Belgium: Day One

It was an early rise this morning (6am to be exact) but even as I was rudely awakened by my alarm, I couldn't help smiling. That's how much I love to travel. No really, just the thought of being on the move and seeing somewhere new excites me enough to be able to get up that early, a rare occurrence as I'm barely ever seen out of bed before midday!

As our train (the 07:57 train from Kings Cross St Pancras to Brussels) pulled out of the station, I got those familiar little 'travel' butterflies telling me we were on our way, that the journey had begun. It's hard to explain to people who don't get those same feelings what it is about travelling that I enjoy so much; it's the not knowing what's ahead, the spontaneity, the people, the food, the culture, the differences, the similarities. There is no one thing that can summarise the essence of travel as it's not just something you 'do'. Instead it is a way of life, a mentality driven by passion, curiosity and a  childish excitement for all things new.

Anyway, 2 hours later and we were in Brussels, where we hopped into a waiting taxi and made our way to the hotel. As we drove through the streets of Belgium, travelling away from Brussels and into Antwerp (where our hotel, De Witte Lelie is situated), I was reminded of the slick city feel of Berlin, with its trams and busy roads, combined with the delicate beauty of Paris, with its little shops and cobbled streets. I guess all European towns and cities are pretty similar really, soaked in history and culture.

After settling in at the hotel, we ventured out onto the streets of Antwerp to find some food! And food we found - at a lovely little cafe/restaurant place called Via Via. And once we were full we headed back into a taxi and went on our way to Tongeren, where we were going to visit Trinny and Susannah as they filmed an episode of their new TV series! So as I sat in the back of the taxi, with two sisters beside me singing along to the Glee soundtrack, and the other one and her friend sitting in front of me, giggling away, playing some insane game of 'hit me when you spot this car', I decided enough was enough, stuck in my earphones and fell asleep to the dulcet tones of Frank Turner..."to the East, to the East, the road beneath my feet. To the West to the West, I haven't got there yet..."

We returned back to Antwerp after a few hours spent sifting through all the rails of clothes, and ventured out once again in search of food.  On the hunt we came across the city's cathedral and spent a few moments staring up at it in awe, before our hunger pains got the better of us and we scurried off to a little restaurant for delicious pasta and pizza.

So there I'll end the day; fed, watered, tired but happy, ready for another day of discovery tomorrow.

P.S. well done for reading all the way to the end, you deserve a prize...um...*virtual high five*!

My Ideal Destination...

So as I mentioned in my last post, I've been filling in the next application form for the STA WTI and one of the questions I'm finding the most challenging is the one that asks 'what is your ideal travel destination?'. I mean, come on...that's hard! That's like asking me what my favourite film is...impossible! There are just too many to choose from.

For anyone who knows me, it'll be obvious why I'm struggling with this one. I can't make decisions. Ever. Life is too exciting, there are so many opportunities to be had, so many places to visit, so many adventures to be, well, adventured. I want to throw my all into everything, to explore the unknown, to work out who I am and what I like and who I want to be. As I said in my application video, I've been told by my friends that I'm [quote/unquote] "in everything", and I think that's a perfect description of me. However, this also means that I can never just pick one thing or one place.

So in response to your question STA, I say this: I cannot choose just one. The world is too vast and too exciting to limit myself to just one destination - I love different places for different reasons. Obviously I have formed my own idealisations about certain places I am yet to visit, and have favourite destinations that I've already had the pleasure of travelling to, but to tell you just one of these would be to ignore all the others and take away from what they can offer. I'll be happy anywhere, as long as I'm out there exploring; seeing and learning new things, meeting new people and discovering new ways of life, ultimately changing my perspective of the world.

For more details have a look at my profile and if you like my answer, give me a vote!

Top 50 baby!

Yesterday was intense, with a capital TENSE! As I checked, refreshed and checked again on the STA World Traveller Intern homepage my heart was in my mouth, a million questions running through my mind...what if I haven't made it? What if my video wasn't good enough? What if all this effort and panic and fun and stress hasn't paid off and they don't like me enough? What if I'm not what they're looking for?

Those 30 or so minutes when the website went down and displayed the message 'we are currently updating our website' was the most insane, surreal experience, with twitter going crazy, full of messages from my fellow applicants, fingers, toes and everything crossed, waiting for the very same thing I was.

Whether I win or not, this has probably been the most rewarding part of the competition, getting to know all these other traveller types, who live for the adventure and excitement of the open road, just like me. And yes, I know it is a competition, so I shouldn't really get too friendly but the way I see it, if I did by any miracle, actually win, I could be travelling with one of them! So there's no need to burn any bridges. As a group, we as applicants have been so supportive of each other, blogging and twittering about our experiences, helping each other out. I'm excited to meet some of them at the STA meet up next week, maybe make some friends to travel with in future? Who knows?

Anyway, back to the competition...so at about 5pm yesterday evening, when the suspense was really getting to me, I got a tweet from Paddy telling me that the results were up! With baited breath I clicked refresh and there it was...there I was. In the Top 50! Me! I couldn't believe it. Here's some proof...so I never forget:

I'm still in a bit of daze to be honest...and I can't stop smiling. This might sound smug, but I'm really proud of myself for actually doing it and for giving it a go. To know that I made the effort and was successful in my attempts is just fantastic. That goes for everyone else too...congratulations to all the other 49 finalists...WE DID IT!!

So now my attentions turn to the next round...the application for the Top 20. Keen bean that I am, I've started answering some of the questions already.

I'm gonna make this next application form the best that STA have ever seen.

P.S. To all those who voted and campaigned for me...I love you I love you I love you. thank you. x

What Are You Doing To Me?

23rd of March. D-Day. The moment of truth. Or so I thought. Imagine my dismay last night when I went online to find this:
So...STA have extended the deadline for the first round for the World Traveller Intern competition and as much as that's great for those who hadn't gotten around to entering yet, for those of us (Paddy Doyle, Emma Sparks, Harry Harris, Sophie Collard etc etc) who've all been eagerly and impatiently awaiting the day we find out if we've made it into the top 50...this is AGONY!
I don't think I've ever wanted anything so much in my entire life and I think that's because I feel like it is a job that would suit me down to the ground. This competition is honestly all I think about, I'm utterly obsessed! But I've enjoyed every minute of it.

I got an email from the lovely Fran of STA TravelBuzz the other day asking me some questions about the competition, and although I did email him back, and post a response on twitter (click here), I thought I might try to sum up my experience of the competition on here too:

How have you been preparing for the next stage if you were to go through?
As much as I really really want this, I've been trying to think about it just one stage at a time, so I'm not massively crushed if I don't make it through to the next round (although I definitely will be)...but I guess I've just been giving a lot of thought about WHY I want to travel and what it is about ME  that would be so good for this job. I've got a few ideas on the go for another video if I were to get into the top 10 and, like Paddy, I too can often be spotted talking to myself as I answer some imaginary phone interview questions!  But that's a long way off, not even into the top 50 yet!

Note to self: stop getting so carried away.

Any particular views about the competition so far?
I've been following the US version of this competition since it began and have just been waiting and hoping that one day there'd be a UK one, so when I first got the news I really threw myself headfirst into it. No, really. I was so excited I stayed up all night planning my application video.

I've loved the whole thing...had such an awesome time making my application video (neglected my uni work for a good 2 weeks...oops!) and campaigning for votes by any means possible... ...facebook/twitter/word of mouth, you know the drill. It's also so great to be able to interact (via social networking sites) with some of the other applicants - meeting like-minded people is really what it's all about right? I think my mates are getting pretty sick of me talking about it, so it's nice to have some people who know how I'm feeling!

Have you been particularly impressed with other applicants?
Overall, the videos are great and so diverse, with everyone finding different ways of expressing themselves (Thomas Minnock's is particularly clever and original, with an awesome backing track). It's slightly worrying actually - more and more fantastic videos are being posted everyday, making mine ebb away into obscurity :P

I think my favourite applicants at the moment are Paddy Doyle, Harry Harris and Emma Sparks...not only because of how great their videos are, but also because of how involved they've been...they seem just as enthusiastic and excited as I am, which is great! I'm glad I'm not the only one who's crazy-obsessed with this.

With shameless self-promotion I once again say...vote for meeee!

Bring on the new deadline...Thursday 25th of March.
And please, STA, don't change it again. I don't think my nerves can take it!

Travel Envy

Wanderlust: very strong or irresistible impulse to travel.

As it comes to the end of term, and loads of my friends are preparing for their course field trips, while I'm stuck in the library, researching for an essay, I find myself with a massive case of travel envy...that's right, the green-eyed travel monster is rearing it's head and my feet are getting itchier by the second. One friend is off to Milan, one to New York and another to California! Just to add to this, my Film course doesn't. go. anywhere. Not in the whole 3 year degree. Not one single trip. So...I figure I'm gonna have to do something about this. Campaign, raise money, really fight my travelling corner. Or just Go. On. My. Own.

There are so many excuses as to why one shouldn't just up and leave and disappear off into the wilderness - no money, no time, too much work etc etc. But I have decided these won't be mine anymore. Screw money, what else is a student loan for? There's always time, you just have to find it. And work? Well, just do it on the plane/train/automobile! This year (whether it be this Easter holiday, or in the summer) I am going to go somewhere. Somewhere I've never been before. A place to adventure in. And I'll come back with tales to tell to all those people who are making me jealous right now.

Serious case of wanderlust: solved.

Why We Travel

Fantastic article I thought I'd share. It eloquently explains the human desire to travel, to be somewhere exciting and new, something that I yearn for on a daily basis, not because I'm bored with where I am, but because my curiosity takes over. Everywhere else is just more exciting.

"Because work is stressful and our blood pressure is too high and we need a vacation. Because home is boring. Because the flights were on sale. Because New York is New York."

Because New York is New York.

So. True.
